D1: ANTANANARIVO – AMPEFY

Meet and greet in the airport. Then departure for Ampefy, 134 km in the west of Antananarivo. Crossing volcanic landscapes and typical of the west center of the island. Arrive at Ampefy in the afternoon. Installation at the hotel by the lake. Possibility of walking around the lake or going to meet the fishermen of the lake. The region provided the capital of MADAGASCAR in freshwater fish (Tilapia). Night and dinner at the hotel.

D2: AMPEFY – TSIROANOMANDIDY – BELOBAKA

Transfer to Tsiroanomandidy (the biggest cow market in Madagascar), 113 km in the west of Ampefy, following the cow road of the Middle East Malagasy. Then we continue in a bush taxi by the track to reach the village of Belobaka, the last great agglomeration before the large desert areas of the west. Night in camping.

 

J3 & 4: HIKING 400 TO 600M OF ALTITUDE GAIN

At dawn, accompanied by our porters, we begin our hike through a wild and unknown landscape, formed by hills cut by “Lavaka” (small canyon). These small canyons are due to soil erosion during the rainy season. Meet with the villagers who plow the trails with their goods, be it tobacco, local alcohol or rice. Night in camping.

D5: HIKING – ANKAVANDRA

Last day of hiking. Always on a stony path along the escarpment of the massif. We follow a beautiful stream whose falls have dug natural pools in the rock. Arrival and lunch at the village of Ankavandra in the country of Menabe (Grand Rouge).A warm welcome from the villagers at the arrival of these 3 days away from any civilization. But we quickly realize that here it is the same. There are just a few more people but it’s still the end of the Malagasy bush. Opportunity to visit the small school. Night under typical boxes of the region.

D6: DESCENT THE MANAMBOLO

We load our supplies early and embark for 4 days of unusual trips and out of time. We embark aboard our traditional canoes for the descent of the Manambolo River. But before leaving, we will ask the ancestors to protect us during this adventure. Our boatmen start the “fomba”, the ritual is done before departure. Offering rhum to ancestors and zanahary. The convoy is carried by the current of the majestic Manambolo. We cross a lunar landscape of jagged hills, denuded by erosion. Picnic lunches. Night in camping on the banks of the river.

D7: DESCENT OF THE MANAMBOLO

Accompanied by the cries of joy of the children of the village, we resume our journey in the heart of Menabe. Sometimes the course of the river is lost in its sand bed and requires us to get off our canoes. While our team pushes the canoes into the silted river. Sometimes narrowing between two hills, the river runs along small cliffs from which spring clear water springs. The whole life of the river unfolds before our eyes at the languid rhythm of nature and the current that carries us away. Night in camping near the river.

J8: DESCENT OF THE MANAMBOLO

The landscape changes as the Bemaraha tsingy approaches. We enter the foothills of the mountain. The houses disappear little by little; and the banks give way to walls of sand dug by the crus of the river. We plant our tents in the gorges of the river. Night in bivouacs.

D9: ARRIVAL BEKOPAKA

In the morning, our advance on Bekopaka is done in an impressive silence of the majestic Bemaraha gorge. A parade of cliffs with vertical walls dug by the river, isolates us from the rest of the outside world. Around noon, we leave the gorges to reach Andadoany, entering the Tsingy national park of bemaraha. Installation in the camp. Afternoon acclimatization circuit Small Tsingy (3:00 p.m) .. Unusual site formed by limestone peaks over 30m high (World Heritage Site by UNESCO). Night at the hotel. Free dinner

D10: BEKOPAKA GRAND TSINGY OF BEMARAHA

Declared by UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1990, Bemaraha became National Park in August 1997 to develop its Eco tourism potential. The Tsingy are a very dense network of faults, crevices, limestone blocks carved blade or sharp needles. In the bottom, they have a complex hydrology with underground cavities that would have been used as shelter to the “vazimba”, first occupants of the island. The fauna is very rich with 13 species of lemurs, mammals like Fosa, land and water birds, amphibians, reptiles. For the flora, 85% of the species are endemic. A wide variety of circuits, of different levels of difficulty, allows an “à la carte” visit of this exceptional site. At Bemaraha Discovery is written with a big “D”. We will do it together!

D11: BEKOPAKA – MORONDAVA

Departure for Morondava early morning. We go back over the manambolo but this time with the Bac. After 15 minutes to cross, we leave on the track of the baobabs that make the famous Morondava region. Stop at Belo on Tsiribihina for lunch. We will cross the river Tsiribihina in ferry before taking the track and go to greet the Sacred Baobab (make your wishes!). Then we will discover the most beautiful specimens of baobabs in the world: the ” le Baobab Amoureux” (Baobab Lovers) and ” l’Allée des Baobabs ” (Baobab Alley) for the sunset. Arrival in the evening at Morondava. Night at the hotel. Free dinner

D12: MORONDAVA – BELO SUR MER

Transfer to Belo on sea, a small fishing village Vezo in the south of Morondava.
Installation at Eco Lodge le Dauphin. Free afternoon.

D13 & 14: BELO SUR MER

Belo Sur Mer, a Vezo fishing village in the west of Madagascar, ideal to immerse yourself in the lifestyle of the inhabitants of the region. The ecolodge Le Dauphin has been built in total respect with its natural environment. The owners have a real ecological approach: the waste is burned or recycled, the bread and yogurts are made in the lodge, the cooking is made to the maximum with local products … The 8 bungalows of the lodge are integrated in the heart of a very nice flower garden, and face the sea. Built in natural materials, they are all equipped with a private bathroom, a mosquito net and a terrace. Meals are served facing the sea. The cooking offered is simple and varied local cooking based primarily on seafood. From the lodge you will have plenty of time to observe the return of the fishermen on their sailing canoe, or to discover the work of craftsmen making the famous dhows, typical of the island.
Diving and fishing trips are organized by the ecolodge. Fauna and flora abound in these places facing the coral islands. There are many groupers, reef sharks, jacks, turtles … Several types of fishing can be practiced, trolling, the handline … It is also possible to perform sea kayak trips.

D15: BELO SUR MER – MORONDAVA – MIANDRIVAZO

Transfer to Morondava and in road to Miandrivazo, the departure city for those who are tempted by the descent of the Tsiribihina River. It is also the hottest city in Madagascar.

D16: MIANDRIVAZO – ANTSIRABE

On the way to Antsirabe, discovery of the miners of Mandoto. Little by little, the desert landscape of the western of Madagascar and the heat give way to rice fields and a milder climate. Discovery of Lake Andraikiba. Breakfasts near the lakes.
We leave for Antsirabe after lunch. Installation at the hotel

D17: ANTSIRABE – TANA – FLIGHT RETURN

Breakfast at the hotel and departure at 8:00 a.m to Tana.
Discovery of the market of the dike and the capital.
Transfer to the airport in the evening and return flight. End of our service
