Madagascar has many ornithological reserves that delight ornithological enthusiasts.
For the 107 endemic species out of 294 species recorded in Madagascar, birdwatchers will be spoiled. For the record, the island has housed the largest bird in the world: the Aepyornis maximus or elephant bird. Giant bird, massive with a height of 3m and weighs around 450kg, its eggs can be estimated between 9 to 12kgs. This “vorombe” bird of the Malagasy name is endemic to Madagascar. It disappeared a long time ago because of the activities of the man but can be also because of the change of climate of its environment. All that remains is his eggs as a souvenir and proof of their existence.

THE MORE OF THIS JOURNEY
The famous Coua: we know nine species in the eastern rainforests. It is recognized by its patch of blue skin behind the ears. But the most beautiful is called the crested coua which measures 40cm long and its head is surmounted by a gray crest that stands in case of alert. Endemic, his “koa koa” sound resonates and amuses us from the top of his perch, on a tree that can reach 15m. The Vangas: is a colorful bird that is found almost everywhere in the island. With its sickle beak, it devours frogs and chameleons without mercy. This species of eagle is found mainly in the western region of the island and is threatened with extinction due to deforestation and pollution. the red owl that can be found in dry forests. Bird symbolizing evil for Malagasy, he is the bird of sorcerers. the sparrow of which one species out of two is endemic in Madagascar. Domohina of his Malagasy name, a lot of Malagasy gives their daughter that name which means beauty, naivety.

The “two stars” attractions here are the Mesites monias and the long-tailed Brachyptérolle, both declining in number in their narrow habitat.
